I moved to Japan!

Neighborhood cafes, old and new friends, catching Mt. Fuji

Hi there! I hope you’re having an awesome start to your 2026 🙂

Here’s a quick life update post-Tokyo move:

  • Finally moved into my sharehouse near Yoyogi park 🌲 🏃

  • Discovered my neighborhood has a gazillion cafes so now I’m on a mission to try and visit a new one each day ☕️

  • Celebrated New Years and did the first shrine visit of the year (Hatsumode) at Meiji Jingu with friends visiting from Korea ❤️

  • Started my new language program! My classmates are all super nice, and we’ve already hit up an izakaya and karaoke within the first week 🍻 🎤

  • Hiked up Mt. Takao on a clear sunny day and was blessed with a rare view of Mt. Fuji from the summit 🏔️

I’ve been working on staying true to my 2026 resolution of laying down new foundations, so these first few weeks I’ve been setting up systems and routines to make life move along more smoothly.

That includes:

  • Stocking up on toiletries

  • New clothing for the winter

  • Groceries and meal prep

  • Laundry routine

  • Studying routine

  • Journaling routine

  • Exercising routine

  • Socializing routine (still working on this one, looking around to see if there’s any groups / regular activities I can join)

Of all of the above, the one thing I’ve been surprisingly consistent at is keeping up with my running program. Heck, this morning I even ran a 10k, only one day after my 5 mile hike. Pretty proud of that one.

I’ll keep the newsletter posted as I continue settling in. For now, that’s all I got!

Cheers,

Tim
